"We are against any violence and occupation," he said. "Jordan stands for the return of Azerbaijani lands."

He said that the purpose of the Jordanian delegation's visit to Baku is to strengthen bilateral relations and intensify cooperation in education, health, economy, energy and other fields.

He also stressed Azerbaijan's recent development and strengthening of its positions in the region and international area.

"I am pleased with the development of the fraternal country which has become the nation having authority on the international arena," he said.

Touching upon the Khojaly genocide, he said that the Azerbaijani and Jordanian parliaments will discuss this issue.

Abdul Rauf Rawabdeh's visit began on Tuesday by visiting the Alley of Honour and the Alley of Martyrs.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
